Breath, just breath?

I hear from people who haven’t really tried yoga that “isn’t it just breathing, what is the point?”. Well, if we don’t breath we will die. It is automatic so we don’t really have to think about it and naturally we breath because we want to live – quite simple. But how many times you actually think how you breath? The power of breathing is that it is the only automatic body function that you actually can control. In other words you cannot control or decide how fast your heart beats but you can control your breath so it is the main door to balance our Mind and Body. I want to emphasise that there is no right or wrong way of breathing, the point is to realize how great tool breathing is for example to find calmness in stressful situations.

Breathing goes in and out approximately even 20 000 times per day. At the same time our brain uses 20-25% of all the oxygen and energy. When you sit at the Office and do your demanding work where you use your brain, do you think it would be worth at least to try to have a moment just on breathing?

People who are all the time busy on their business or corporate world, are not able to stop, thinking about only breathing might sound very boring, uneffectively used time or nonsense. During my stressful times when I tried to concentrate on breathing, my mind was the wild horse that was really going crazy and nearly explode. Mind tries to resist new things,it is normal. I thought that “this is not my thing – it’s better just to go for jogging and breath the fresh air”. But that way my mind was jogging at the same speed. The great news is that you can train your mind and soon “just breathing” might sound a good idea.

When I teach business people or anyone new to yoga, every time it surprises me how people breath without the natural movement of diaphragm and uses so little capacity of the lungs. When diaphragm – the muscle under the lungs, is used in breathing it activates our parasympathetic nervous system and it helps in reducing Stress, Relaxing and Bringing Calmness to your whole Body and Mind.

And he in fact ordered me lunch simply because I
discovered it for him… lol. So allow me to reword this….
Thank YOU for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending the time
